WAPA 2008 Annual Conference and General Meeting

To WAPA Members,

We are excited to announce that the site of this year's WAPA Conference is once again Las Vegas, Nevada. We will be staying at Harrah's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and the conference will be September 18^th and 19^th with sign-in reception Wednesday evening, the 17^th.

This year's agenda should be scheduled as Wednesday evening reception, Thursday conference presentations from 8:00 - 3:30 pm, Friday presentations from 8:00 - 2:00 pm with the WAPA general membership meeting directly following.

A block of rooms are secured through August 18, 2008 at the rates of $100.00 per night, single or double occupancy, for Wednesday and Thursday nights and $160.00 per night for Friday and Saturday nights. Both rates are plus the prevailing Clark County Room Tax which is currently 9%. I urge you not to wait until the last minute to reserve your room as some did last year and were unable to stay at the group rate. Alternate Means of Qualifying Compression Rolled Surfaces

Dear Fellow WAPA Members,

The long awaited FAA Engineering Approved alternate means of qualifying compression rolled surfaces of Hartzell blades has finally been officially accepted. The WAPA Procedure 001 will be posted on the WAPA web site in the "Members Only" section in a downloadable format. You may now choose between Hartzell Manual requirements or the approved WAPA specification for post rolling surface condition return to service.

This information is for current WAPA members only and is proprietary. Revision control will be provided on the web and the password will change at the end of the current membership period.

Please be aware that the specification as written has FAA Engineering approval only. You must incorporate the procedure in your Operating Specifications and submit the change to your PMI for operational approval. Since the ACO has bought off on it, PMI acceptance should not be a problem. If your PMI is confused, have him call Tim Smyth at 847-294-7132.

Also, keep in mind that the inspection must be done by a certified individual using a 10-power glass and an ASME B46.1-1995 Surface Texture Standard. Surface Texture Standards are available at most machine shop supply houses. The maintenance release must also indicate the use of your WAPA spec in lieu of the respective Hartzell Manual requirements.
